10 Tips for Preparing for Your First Boudoir Photo Shoot
If you're getting ready for your first boudoir photo shoot, you may be feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. You want to look and feel your best, but you're not sure where to start. Here are 10 tips to help you prepare for your upcoming photo shoot:
- Choose the right photographer. This is so important. The right photographer will make sure that even if you do not look at any of the following tips your photos come out beautifully. They anticipate issues that may arise and prepare for everything. Check their portfolios, be sure you like their shooting AND editing style. Have a conversation, ask questions.
- Find outfits that make you feel confident and sexy in. Consider bringing a variety of outfits, including lingerie, robes, and accessories, your photographer should help you decide what will look best on camera. Two things we do not recommend often; babydoll nighties (they do not flatter figures and can make middle look bigger than it is.), Corsets (everyone loves how they pull in your waist, but posing in it can be tricky- especially when trying to arch your back)
- Get plenty of rest the night before. You want to look and feel your best, so make sure you get a good night's sleep before your photo shoot.
- Stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your photo shoot can help keep your skin looking healthy. Having plump moisturized skin is the best first step for a smooth makeup finish. Speaking of skin. know yours- and how you react to shaving/waxing. You want to plan wax appointment or shave any hair that may stick out of skimpy bottoms. Do this at a time that will leave you less likely to be red/have razor burn the day of your shoot.
- Use a professional makeup artist and hair stylist. A professional can help you achieve the look you want and ensure that your makeup and hair stay in place throughout the photo shoot. If the studio offers this service use theirs! Especially if you have seen their work and like it. When a photographer and makeup artist work together often they get the best results.
- Practice posing in front of a mirror. Practicing your poses can help you feel more comfortable and confident in front of the camera. If you are not sure what poses you want, google and save some favorites to share with your photographer. But please remember your photographer will be seeing you from different angles than your mirror- listen to their instructions. - Bring along any props or accessories you want to include in your photos. This could be anything from jewelry to a favorite pair of shoes. Think outside the box. Do you have a favorite activity, movie or joke between you and your significant other? Is there something that represents your milestone?
- Don't forget the music. Choosing music that makes you feel confident and sexy can help you get in the right mindset for your photo shoot. Ask your photographer what kind of system they have to play on (to see if it is compatible with your phone). Ask if you can send a playlist ahead of time.
- Communicate, communicate communicate. Let your photographer know what you're comfortable with and what you're not comfortable with. This can help ensure that you get the photos you want. ASK QUESTIONS. Share photos of inspiration shot so your photographer understands the vibe/style you like.
- Have fun! Boudoir photo shoots are meant to be fun and empowering, so make sure you enjoy the experience. Whether it is your first shoot or your 5th, try something new! Finally, remember that boudoir photography is all about celebrating your body and your beauty. Embrace your unique qualities and don't be afraid to show them off!
